As your therapist I have a mandate to create a space for you that is safe for intensely private and difficult discussions and to do so in a confidential and ethical manner. Your goal is not to "make me happy" but to better understand your experience of two worlds; the interior world that you live with, and the exterior world that that you live in.
The relationship between client and therapist can be confusing at times. I am a witness and confidant for my clients. This means that though I am friendly, I am not a friend. I am often told intimate details that are not shared with anyone but a lover, partner, or spouse. I am here for you to discuss your hopes, fears, dreams and nightmares with.
Therapy can be a challenging process of growth and change for the client. It is not my job to make therapy pleasant. Instead it is my job to make therapy safe and ultimately rewarding through compassion, discussion, reflection, sympathy, empathy, and occasionally humor. It is important to remember that we are each human beings, sitting in a room together, discussing intense moments and difficult issues in an effort to alleviate your suffering and increase your quality of life.
I have worked with clients of all sexual orientations and genders; varied religions, spiritual paths, and ethnicities; a range of ages from children to the elderly; and both victims and perpetrators of trauma. I have worked with individuals, groups, couples, and families of many types. I look forward to working with you.
